Because of the recently missed classes (due to my father's death, the storm and the Prime Minister's death), we will do the readings below in the following order:

in the tutorial of the week of October 17, we will study "The Intentional Fallacy" by Wimsatt and Beardsley;

in the lecture of Thursday October 21, we will do Arnold's "The Study of Poetry" and Eliot's "Tradition and the Individual Talent" (topic: Authorship / the Literary Tradition) in the lecture;

in the tutorial of the week of October 24, we will study "The Affective Fallacy" by Wimsatt and Beardsley;

in the lecture of Tuesday October 26, we will do Arnold's "The Function of Criticism" and Richard's Practical Criticism (topic: the Reader);

in the lecture of Wednesday October 27 (the make-up class in TSR1 from 2-3 pm), we will do Ransom's "Criticism as Pure Speculation" and Brooks' "The Heresy of Paraphrase";

in the lecture of Thursday October 28, we will do Zola's "The Experimental Novel";

We will commence Module 3 during the week of October 31 as scheduled with one change to the readings that week: in the tutorial that week, we will study Handout 08D on Ian Watt's "Realism and the Novel Form" (which was originally scheduled for the previous week) in lieu of the handout on Humboldt.

Last but not least, please bring the relevant handouts to the class in question!  Come prepared!
